Monster and Scholar Story in English
Once upon a time, there was one very sweet talking scholar. He was traveling through a forest once. A monster caught him. The scholar was not afraid of the monster. He started talking to the monster very sweetly. This was a new experience for the monster. He was very surprised. He was very delighted and said to the scholar, “I am very pleased with your sweet talking. But I am going to kill you. If you tell me why my body is weak and turning yellow day by day, I will let you go alive.”
The scholar said, “You are living in this forest alone and are trying to enjoy the riches of the forest alone. You do not have any friends. That is why you are turning yellow. Your cruelty does not let anyone come near you. Your conscience is cursing your mind for doing wrong things. That is why you have no peace. You are always thinking of your own happiness. Rich people disregard you. Poor people are afraid of you. You do not have any means of livelihood. That is why you have to go hungry sometimes. Nobody sees your better qualities. Your family has left you. You do not have any ambition. You are a human being yet, you are behaving like an animal.
You are constantly thinking of this. You have a sick mind and that is why your body is becoming weak day by day.” When the monster heard all this from the scholar, he felt repentant. He realized the reason for his weakness.
He knew why he was unhappy. He touched the scholar’s feet. He made the scholar his Guru. From that moment, he changed his ways and spent rest of his life doing good deeds.
