Answer: Speech on ‘Giving is Receiving’
Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends. It is my honor today to take the stage to talk about something that is truly close to my heart: the joy of giving.
It was entrepreneur and self-made millionaire, Jim Rohn who said, ‘Only by giving can you receive more than you have’. The contradictory idea of giving and receiving in this quote stayed with me as I tried to figure out what Jim Rohn, a man who spent his entire life accumulating more than others, was trying to say. Today, I believe I have found the answer.
Giving, quite simply, makes us feel happy. We spend all our lives in selfish pursuits. So, when we do something for others we feel a brand new sense of purpose. Giving also develops within us the feelings of contentment and empathy. We realize that even after giving something away our lives have not changed in the slightest but the one we gave to, has benefited immensely. Lastly, giving promotes co-operation and social connection as it is not an isolated activity. When we give we also familiarize ourselves with the trials and tribulations in the lives of others. We step out of the bubble of our, somewhat more comfortable, lives and perceive the human experience that those less fortunate than us are having.
Thus, I would like to conclude my speech with one of my favorite quotes. ‘Everyone can experience the joy of giving because everyone has something to give’.
