Story: Magical Mangoes

One prince, one son of a minister, one son of a money lender and one son of a general were friends. The prince’s name was Jaisinh. The name of the minister’s son was Mahipal. The name of the money lender’s son was Ratanchand and the name of the son of the general was Veersinh.

All four were very close friends. Their friendship was praiseworthy. They always used to be together. They played together, studied together.

Once, Jaisinh said to his friends, “I am very bored, staying here. Let us go somewhere. Let us travel to a far off place.”

Everybody took permission of their fathers. They took horses. They collected other necessities and started on a journey happily.

In the evening the horses got tired. All of them decided that they should rest at night. They were in a forest. There was no village nearby, so they decided to stop there for rest.

They had their meal. They tied the horses, gave them food. They all agreed that one should keep watch while the other three slept. They decided to keep watch turn by turn.

Jaisinh took a sword in his hand and started walking around. A branch of the tree under which they were sleeping, started swaying after some time. The tree was a mango tree. The mangoes were ripe. A voice came from the branch.

“Please move aside or we will fall down immediately.”

Prince Jaisinh was not at all afraid of the voice.

He said to the branch, “Do what you want to do, we will not move from here.”

The prince realized that the tree was magical. They had decided to wake one of the other three after some time. But the prince wanted to see what magic the tree was going to perform. So he did not wake his friends.

Three times the same message came and three times Jaisinh gave the same answer. The tree said, “The person at whose feet my fruit falls, will become a king.”

A fruit fell near the prince.

Then the tree said, “The person at whose feet my fruit falls, will become a minister.”

A fruit fell near the minister’s son.

Again after some time the tree said, “The person at whose feet my fruit falls, will become a famous money lender.”

A fruit fell near the money lender’s son.

After some time the tree said, “The person at whose feet my fruit falls, will become a general.”

A fruit fell near the general’s son.

The prince was very surprised. Morning came.

Everybody picked up the fruit which they found at their feet and ate it.

Jaisinh told his friends of the incident. All of them were surprised. They offered Puja to the tree and left for their journey.
